AI
These two letters are on, everyone's lips; AI has taken root in all areas of everyday (working) life. And we are only at the beginning...
All these high-tech people who invented AI and continue to drive this technology forward, ‘ »believe that texts »- in our case, language / speech - "are simply information, because they have nothing to do with literature", as two translators summed it up wisely in an interview at this year's Leipzig Book Fair (see link).
But with our language, with our voice, we convey an attitude, moods, feelings. Only these give the text, which can be spoken in very different ways, the desired meaning.
AI cannot (yet) do this. « AI cannot think, », the translators continue, "but uses something that is already there and that it has picked up from somewhere. "
This is dehumanisation in the truest sense of the word.
I can warmly recommend this interview (in German!) to anyone who feels affected (or perhaps threatened) by AI.
More about my proper experience with AI in the next blog.
